About the Event

After the tremendous response to out first sewing summer camp – and several emails from those who missed out – the Sew Curious half-day camp is back for one week only in August. The camp will run for three hours every weekday (1pm-4pm, Monday to Friday) at the Blikken Hut in Lovettsville.

Sew Curious provides sewing lessons for curious kids and teens in a warm environment with an expert voice, helping them feel empowered and building their confidence.

Your child will start on the same basic project as their peers to teach foundational sewing skills. They’ll then have the opportunity to choose their own sewing projects, with guidance from the teacher.

Camps are $270 for the week, and all materials are included in the price (fabrics, threads, buttons, zippers, elastics, etc.).

Sewing camp is open to children and teens aged 8-17. Spaces are limited, so sign up today!

As we will be using sewing machines, sharp pins, and sharp sewing scissors, we encourage you to consider your child’s maturity level and ability to follow directions and abide by rules before enrolling in sewing camp. If you have any concerns or questions, please contact Emily at or text 703-889-0713.

What to expect

Each day of sewing camp, your child will have the opportunity to make progress on an existing sewing project, or start a new one.

Your child’s teacher, Emily, will take the time to guide them through each project, with a careful balance between helping and supervising, and stretching and encouraging. The daily three-hour time slot ensures your child will have the time to make noticeable progress every day, without feeling overwhelmed or tired out at the end.

On day one, your child will start with a basic sewing project designed to teach foundational sewing skills. They’ll then be able to choose their next projects under Emily’s guidance, with options including toys, bags, décor, accessories, clothes, and more.

Your teacher

Emily has been sewing dresses, costumes, accessories, décor, and more since she was 12 years old.

As an adult, Emily began teaching friends and their kids how to sew.

Her students quickly came to appreciate her nurturing nature, oodles of patience, and genuine delight at seeing others learn, grow, and become more confident. And so, with their encouragement, Sew Curious was born.

Our mantra

At Sew Curious, our mantra is “nurture, inspire, create”.

This mantra encapsulates our nurturing and encouraging approach to teaching, our determination to help build your child’s confidence and inspire them to try new things, and the end result of this process, which is to help your child create amazing sewn projects that they’re proud to share with friends and family with the comment, “I made this!”.

Enroll in sewing camp today to experience our “nurture, inspire, create” approach for yourself.
